  Yes - I had a lot of fun. I learned several new things.

  Yes - there are several things that I think could have useful applications in the library.

  Yep - some things i've already adopted - others I think I might adopt in the future.

  I didn't really have a buddy. I was pretty much on my own b/c I didn't keep up with the weekly schedule.

  Definitely!
  
• How could we have made this experience better?
  I liked it and really don't have any complaints. Several of the things I already knew about, but I learned new things as well. I liked that I was able to do it at my own pace b/c my schedule can be crazy.

Thing 22

Okay - I must say this one is an easy one for me as well. I've been listening and viewing podcasts via iTunes for awhile. folks at my previous institution introduced me to them and i started out by listening to Car Talk but i've since started to explore them for a variety of topics. Again - good PR and educational applications that lots of institutions are taking advantage of. I've never created a podcast - but from what i understand they are fairly easy to do.

Oh YouTube - what can I say - it's a whole lotta fun. There's a lot on there and you can punch in the craziest thing and find videos. Many librarians have made their own YouTube videos and it makes sense b/c there are a lot of PR and educational opportunities with YouTube.

Google Maps Satellite View of TCU

I love Google Maps. I have spent many hours on different occasions messing with Google Maps - I love the Street View. I've looked at houses/blocks, etc. using the street view. If a friend moves to a new house - I look at the Google street-view. Yes, it might be a little stalker-ish - but it's cheaper than a plane ticket to go see the house.

I've also played with Google Earth some as well. I love the fact that i can go to areas that I don't have street address for and "wander" around. I didn't realize that the purple buildings had additional info (maybe that's new since I played around with it??). Very neat and a great tool for teaching - esp. at an elementary level.

Thing 19

Wow - I've known about this for a little while, but never looked at it. It sure would've made my life easier on numerous occasions. We easily could have used it for the Assessment Committee Report on seating and I could have also used it with the MLA program review group.

Thanks for getting me to try it out. I'm going to introduce my husband to it as well.

Wow - posting and making links in PBWiki is a lot easier than the wiki i've used in the past. Much improved from my previous experience!

Another day of Catch-up

Okay - i'm getting ready to move and go to TALL Texans - so as of tomorrow i'll be out for almost 2.5 weeks. I figure i've got some time this afternoon, so i'll try to finish up all of the Things. Thing 17 was easy. I've explored the various wikis and have used wikis at a previous institution. I had a love/hate relationship with my wiki - but have come around to them. My biggest issue with them i think was that i didn't have any training on how to use it and the text editor wasn't very good. i didn't know the wiki code that well and found it frustrating that i couldn't just cut and past MSWord docs. In retrospect I see that the benefits outweigh the negatives.

Oh and the task of typing in a noun and wikipedia being in the first 6 hits on Google - amazing! Has anyone ever beat it? I typed in some weired words and there wikipedia was in the first 6 every time.

Off to the airport

I'd love to stick around a play a bit more tonight, but got to go pick up the hubby at the airport. His flight was delayed and he's getting in way too late. In any case - I've volunteered to pick him up - so i'm signing off for the night. Whoever is monitoring my things - have fun. I've finished up through Thing 16 tonight. Ciao!

Ah yes, LiberryThing - oops LibRARYThing

Yes, this one i'm familiar with. I created an account about 2 years ago. I actually had to try a few times to get in. Finally figured out my login and was able to add a few books that i recently read and a few others that I read a long time ago. This one i'm going to try to keep up with (altho I don't read as much as i'd like to anymore). I think it could prove useful to find additional books to read like the ones i already like. I love having reviews - although sometimes the reviews spoil what the book is about - so i've got to limit my reading of reviews.

i guess this could serve useful for someone who reads lots and lots of blogs or someone who is looking for blogs pertaining to certain topics. i played around looking at different blogs. i did add to my yahoo feeds Boing Boing which was listed as the top most popular blog. it's described as "a directory of wonderful things." i have to say the posting of "man babies" was pretty funny.

This is a tool that I think is very handy and have used it before in a work capacity. We created an account at the reference desk at my old job. It held all of the sites that we found useful for various assignments, reference questions etc. Anyone working on the desk would add bookmarks so that folks working the desk later could easily find what others had used and found useful. It was a great tool - one that i always said i'd use independently - but I actually never have used it in a personal capacity. I don't tend to bookmark all that much stuff. Great site though!

Wow - more flickr??

I was expecting to go onto something else - but it was still flickr. Well i made a jigsaw puzzle of my cat - the picture produced had missing pieces of her poor little ear. Ouchy. I also did a lolcats picture with captions. Kinda cute. I'll spare you those pictures though - i went a little wild with the retrievr pix so i'll refrain from posting cat pictures.

This is one of my favorite flowers. The passion flower is so cool - it looks like a prehistoric version of an orchid. In Durham, one of my good friends Chaunda had a passion flower vine that she planted to climb their chimney. When they moved to South Korea we rented the house and I loved when this thing would start growing in the spring. I couldn't wait for the blooms. It's an odd looking flower but very beautiful!

Flickr Success!

Okay - after a couple tries I got it to work. I uploaded 2 pictures of my black kitty - Chloe. This will come in handy b/c I need to get some stuff off of my old mac and transfer to my new one. Most of what i have are pix so I can upload them to Flickr. I also messed around finding friends in my contacts list and looked at some of their pictures. I found some that my uncle posted and actually commented on one of the photos (he mixed up names of one of my nieces - so I corrected him - they look a lot alike!). Definitely a handy tool that I will use more in the future for sure.

...well it looks cool. I am having some problems uploading pix though. I tried to upload directly on the website, but it bogged down. I then downloaded a cool and easy to use uploader for my Mac. That was much easier, but it seems to have bogged down right at the end of loading my pictures. I'm just uploading 2 pix - so i don't quite get what the problem is. I'll let it go for a little more and perhaps it will work??

Digg - the American Idol of the Lib2.0 world

Okay - so i went onto Digg and I actually found a couple things that were intriguing. I found a story on the release of the new 3G iPhone which i am waiting anxiously for. I don't see me using Digg much though. It's kind of like the American Idol of the web. i don't watch American Idol so I don't think i'll use Digg too much. Interesting but not for me. May be fun to surf when i am bored and want to look at random things - but otherwise not.

LibWorm

This I was vaguely aware of - visited it once i believe, but this time i played around with it a bit more. The capability of saving feeds based on your search is great. I saved my RSS feeds (academic libraries and one on the search "assessment") to my Yahoo feed reader. I found it interesting that many of the things on assessment that popped up pertained to jobs. We'll see what happens. Definitely a great resource for finding feeds pertinent to the job. Thanks!

Fallen way behind....

Okay - time for some catchup with Catch-23. The next thing is IM. I've got that down very well. Been using IM for a long time - very familiar with Trillian and Pidgin (used to be gAIM) too. I've got an AIM and Yahoo account. I tend to use my Yahoo account most though b/c i can IM right from yahoo which is nice. Unfortunately usually i set myself to "invisible" b/c for awhile I'd have folks IM me when i was at work and it would be a complete time suck. So - I can easily and confidently say IM - Check!
